Fall 2010: Dead line December 1, 2010

$1000 Top Prizes

The Unogeo Institute, a nonprofit educational organization, extends this invitation to Middle School, High School and College level students to participate in our challenge to become better team future problem solvers by registering as a participant in this fall’s competition to design a future village for the Peace Highway project. The Peace Highway project is the concept of an international underground tube mass transit system that will connect most of the major cities and capitals of the world to move products, services and ideas to promote economic development and peace among nations. Along its path the Peace Highway is expected to provide the opportunity for over 20,000 new villages to be built as hub communities connecting to the mass transit system.

Your challenge if you will become a participant is to create a design team of at least two members to research and bring forward your original design and essay describing one of these new future Peace Villages. Your team can select the location but it must not be larger than one square mile in size and must be within 100 miles of a major city or capital of the world. Your team can select the desired population but it must be between 25,000 and 250,000. Your team can earn up to 500 design points within these essay topics:

Environment (50 pts),  Education (50 pts),  Aesthetics (50 pts),  Recreation (50 pts), Government (50 pts),  Culture (50 pts) Economics (50 pts), Family (50 pts), Safety and Security (50 pts),  Peace Mission (50 pts)

Your team can earn up to 500 additional design points from your physical design, which can be a drawing or a physical model that you build. The points awarded will reflect your creativity, sense of future feasibility, your level of effort, your presentation of design, and how well your design reflects your essay.

All designs and essays must be submitted electronically to mailto: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than December 1, 2010 for this falls consideration. Teams may submit photos, drawings, sketches or even videos for their presentation. Physical models must be photographed and submitted electronically also.

All teams that submit their design and essay will receive a certificate of participation. Teams that score above 900 points will be eligible to receive posters, plagues and t-shirts. The highest score in each of the three categories of Middle School, High School and College levels will be eligible for a $1000 prize. All points and prizes will be announced by December 15th, 2010.

There is NO CHARGE to any school or team registering to participate. Registrations need to be submitted no later than November 1, 2010. To register send letter to mailto: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it We ask that participating schools provide a contact person, and team members with email addresses. Schools may register as many teams as are interested.

Schools and teams may elect to participate in either or both of the Unogeo Institute’s sponsorship programs called Traveling for Peace and Shopping for Peace. Participation in these fund raising programs is free to the school and teams but it is how we raise money to sponsor this program. Unogeo Institute will divide any incomes from these programs so that fifty percent will go back to your school to support special programs, talented and gifted studies, music and art, as well as general budgets. More information on our programs as well as this design competition can be viewed on our website at http://www.peacehighway.org/

This is the first year of our design competition and we hope to see many schools participate. We will make a decision by November 1, 2010 if we will be sponsoring a spring and summer 2011 competition as well. We will appreciate your participation as well as your feedback and any questions.
